What Does Upcycled Denim Actually Mean?
You might have noticed we use a few different words to describe our jeans - upcycled, reclaimed, remade, saved and salvaged.
They're all getting at the same basic idea: we're taking denim that already exists and giving it another life.
The denim we use comes from samples donated by a local denim company that I used to work for. These pieces of fabric had already been made, but they had served their purpose through the design process and now were destined for the bin.
So we've saved them from going to waste, reclaimed them for something new, and remade them into little pairs of jeans.
Or, if you like, we've salvaged some perfectly good denim and given it a new job.
And because we're working with samples, every piece is a little different.
Different washes, textures, shades and sometimes just different amounts of fabric available.
We're not ordering a giant roll of identical denim and making hundreds of pairs that all look exactly the same.
We're working with what we've got and seeing what we can make from it.
So when you buy a pair of our jeans, you're getting something made from denim that already had a life before it became your kid's jeans.
And we think that's pretty cool.
